That presentation to me has a very strong connection with some very positive childhood memories. I cannot say as I am much a fan of the film grain look myself, but toss in some black and white, and I can definitely feel a strong change in my overall mood. If it doesn't really impress you then the most likely reason is that it wasn't meant to impress you, but instead that it was put their to impress another audience segment.
